On a hot, sunny day in July, therapy will be the last thing on your mind. Many of us feel happy and stress free during this time of year. There are many benefits to starting therapy during the summer months, in particular for children and teenagers. Here are our 10 top reasons you should try: 

  1. Learning and solidifying new skills during a time that is not requiring your brain energy from other academic and social learning tasks

  2. Reflection on the school year (what went well, what did not) and an opportunity to reset for the fall

  3. An opportunity to build on the skills that have been learned, find ways to implement them in a stress free time, therefore using them more successfully 

  4. Starting therapy when you are feeling well actually has many positive benefits - including the ability to retain and implement the strategies you’ve learned; sort out the areas of improvement, without the need to problem solve immediate difficulties

  5. Ease of scheduling and flexibility to attend sessions without ‘fitting it in’ to the regular hectic schedule

  6. Can provide some needed structure and routine during the summer 

  7. An opportunity to focus on yourself, your strengths and build confidence during a time that does not require a lot of commitment to other social-emotional tasks
